Friday Friends: Gus Zagarella

This week’s Friday Friends are Gus Zagarella and his colleagues at the We Are Not Alive YouTube channel. Gus began making short videos in 2013, slowly building an audience for his channel Diregentleman. The Diregentleman channel received honors from Youtube for reaching over 100,000 subscribers.
Henry Galley, a content creator and writer with the No Sleep Podcast, came across Gus’s cartoon reviews and video essays and the two began collaborating. Together with several others they’ve worked on many projects and produced several audio dramas. They hit the ground running with their Less is Morgue podcast earning them recognition from Audio Verse Awards winning for New Audio Play Production in 2020. The team produced 44 episodes over two seasons which are still available as podcasts. The team also produces their own individual projects with help from the We are Not Alive team, including, The Kingmakers Histories. Killjam XXX. There is no shortage of content and Gus is one of the most disciplined writers I know. His love for the genre is clear and comes through in his work.
Gus curates the group’s YouTube channel which now boasts more than 107,000 subscribers. Regular episodes include SpongeBob Boys and Two Professional Writers, as well as other explorations of art, storytelling, reviews, and the weirdness of the internet.
